CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Charlie May was the highlight after the first day Tar Heel Intercollegiate and is in the top-15 individually after shooting a 69 in the second round as the Elon University men’s golf team completed the first two rounds of the tournament on Friday, Oct. 7, at the UNC Finley Golf Course.
Colonial Athletic Association foe UNCW is currently in the lead at nine-under par (281-286–567) and are three strokes ahead of the host and GolfStat.com No. 30-ranked North Carolina. Elon sits in 12th after the first 36-holes.
After May carded a first-round two-over 74, the senior rebounded, tying a career-low round with a three-under 69, to move into the top-15 individually. In the second round alone, May drained six birdies.
In addition for the Phoenix, William Harwood stands at seven-over par for the tournament and is tied for 55th individually. William Knibbs made his collegiate debut and is tied for 65th after day one. Jared Mactas is at 13-over par and Jake Leavitt is at 20-over for the tournament.
Dex Blank and Steven Segrist both competed as individuals for the Phoenix. Blank shot a career-low round of 74 in the final 18 holes and is in 69th individually. Segrist made is collegiate debut for the Phoenix and is at 17-over par after the first day.
The final round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate begins tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
