GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s soccer team defeated USA South Athletic Conference foe William Peace University Wednesday, 4-0.

The Pride (9-3-2, 5-3-2 USA South) started the scoring off early when Caitlyn Cook scored off of a rebound from an Anna Rae Porcelli shot in the 7th minute.

Mercedes Fisher then extended the lead when she gathered a through-ball from Gabbriele Edinger, behind the Pacers (3-12-1, 2-8-0 USA South) back four, and tucked her chance away, giving the Pride a 2-0 halftime lead.

It was more of the same in the second half, as the Pride scored a third goal when Lauren Greeson slipped a ball between defenders and found Edinger, who was able to beat an oncoming Shannon Maddex.

The Pride finished the game off when Katia Mezey played a superb ball in behind to Porcelli, who took her one-on-one chance, scoring the match’s final goal.

Porcelli had a team-high seven shots, followed by Greeson with six shots. Fisher and Alexa Rehling each added two shots a piece.

Brittany Morrison earned the win in goal, while Ly’Shanette Major and Rachel Swaim also made appearances in the net for the Pride. Maddex was given the loss for the Pacers, despite making ten saves.

“Great win today as it secured a winning season for our program,” Head Coach Gus Mota said. “We got three points to start the week off, and we are looking forward to two tough conference matches this weekend.”

The Pride will return to action when they travel to Danville, Va., Saturday, to take on the Cougars of Averett University. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College women’s soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com
