HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s soccer team played Longwood to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night at Vert Stadium. The Panthers outshot the Lancers, 16-5, but were unable to get on the board.

“I really like how we battled tonight,” head coach Marty Beall said. “Longwood came at us hard and I think our depth proved to be a difference maker. We were able to grab a hold of the game late and create some good chances that unfortunately we couldn’t finish. Our team defending was fantastic once again and Alex had to make just one good save. I am happy with where we are, its another point in the right direction and now we have to get ready for Saturday.”

High Point moves to 7-5-2 overall on the season and 3-1-1 in the Big South with the team’s first tie since the season opener at UNCG. Longwood now sits at 5-8-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.

The Panthers’ best chance of the night came in the 57th minute when a shot by junior Bri Jean-Charles forced a diving fingertip save by Lancer keeper Maria Kirby. Junior Alex Hank returned the favor on the other end less than a minute later, getting low to stop a shot in a one-on-one situation against Amanda Spencer.

The save by Hank was the Panther keeper’s only of the evening on her way to her fifth clean sheet of the season. Hank is now second in the HPU Div. I career record book in shutouts behind only former Panther keeper Marissa Abbott.

High Point returns to the road this weekend for a contest against Charleston Southern on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Charleston, S.C. The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m.
