RALEIGH, N.C. – The Elon University men’s tennis team closed out its fall season this weekend, Oct. 21-23, at the Wolfpack Invitational hosted by N.C. State. Taylor Foote andSalvador Mijares went unbeaten in doubles to win the White doubles draw, while Chris Humphreys advanced to the championship match of the White singles draw.
“We had a great showing this weekend with Taylor Foote and Salvador Mijares winning their doubles draw, and Chris Humphreys making it to the finals in singles,” Elon head coach Michael Leonard said. “We’re looking forward to preparing for the spring season.”
HIGHLIGHTS
Humphreys went 3-1 in singles play. He started with a three-set win over Radford’s Alexandros Caldwell and beat Sean Burnette and Michael Ogden of N.C. State to advance to the championship match of the White singles draw. The Wolfpack’s Georgiy Malyshev defeated Humphreys in the final match.
Mario Paccini and Neal Port teamed up to advance to the championship match of the Red doubles draw. The duo topped pairings from Duke and N.C. State before falling 8-2 in the championship match.
Port earned straight-set victories over UNC Wilmington’s Josh Hublitz and N.C. State’s Saveljic before falling in the White singles semifinals. Port finished 2-1 in singles.
Foote and Paccini each picked up wins in the singles round of 16. Foote beat The Citadel’s Michael Anzalone 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Paccini topped East Carolina’s Fredric Lehfeldt 7-6(1), 6-4.
Petar Tomic and Felipe Osses-Konig added singles wins in the consolation round after losing first-round matches.
In doubles play, Foote and Mijares defeated pairings from East Carolina and N.C. State to win the White doubles draw. In the championship match, the duo defeated the Pirates’ Ling/Lehfeldt 8-7(3).
