College Men’s Soccer Final – Guilford 2, Randolph 1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Ricky Aguilar’s (Sanford, N.C./Southern Lee) second-half goal pushed Guilford College to a Wednesday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Randolph College, 2-1.

Randolph fired three of the game’s first four shots in the first six minutes of the contest when Blake Heatherly set up Kyle Unruh in the seventh minute to claim an early lead. The lead did not hold long as the Quakers countered quickly when they earned a throw-in where Mark Dandanell fed Edgar Solis off of the throw-in in the 12th minute to tie the game. Randolph began to press after the goal as the WildCats tallied seven consecutive shots over a 19-minute span and eight of nine shots in a 21-minute portion of the period.

Randolph tallied five of the second half’s first six shots and tallied four corner kicks in the first ten minutes of the period. The Quakers began to press after a large volume of substitutions, pressuring with an Edgar Solis header in the 64th minute. One minute later, Leke Ademoyero fed a backwards pass into the box for Aguilar who booted a left-footed shot into the net to claim the lead. Randolph answered with a spurt of three shots immediately after the goal, but the momentum swung back to the Quakers in the 75th minute with a three-shot spurt of their own spanning towards the 80th minute. Ademoyero nearly increased the lead when he fired a shot in the 76th minute, but the Randolph defense stopped the ball at the goal line. Randolph pressed in the final ten minutes with a five-shot rally, testing Eric Hayes (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) as he made two saves to close out the period while the Quakers secured the win.

Randolph out-shot Guilford, 28-10, and held a 9-1 edge on corner kicks.

Hayes finished with five saves in net for the Quakers. Erick-Cortez Martinez made two of Randolph’s three saves.

The Quakers conclude the regular season Friday night for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest with Hampden-Sydney College on Guilford’s Senior Night.
