College Women’s Soccer Final – #7 Randolph-Macon 1, #10 Guilford 0 (ODAC First Round)

ASHLAND, Va. – Lexi Mallory’s 45th-minute goal proved to be the game’s winning goal for Randolph-Macon College as tenth-seeded Guilford College dropped Monday night’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament first round match to seventh-seeded Randolph-Macon, 1-0.

Randolph-Macon (7-7-3) held the only two shots of the first 15 minutes as the Yellow Jackets held a slight edge in possession. Even as the Yellow Jackets fired the next eight shots in the period up to the final minutes, the Quakers’ (6-9-1) defense held as Cheyenne Grim made two key saves during that stretch. Randolph-Macon finally broke through in the final minute of the half when Mallory followed up an Alex Burns rebounded shot with a header into the goal to claim the lead.

The Yellow Jackets fired the half’s first four shots over the first twenty minutes of the period, with all shots coming after the 55th minute. Cheyenne Grim held for the Quakers in the 62nd and 63rd minutes, making a pair of saves in that two-minute span to hold off Randolph-Macon. The next 18 minutes only featured one Randolph-Macon shot as the pace began to slow down. Guilford’s best chance to even the match came in the 81st minute off of an Ana Fokas corner kick where Morgan Kremzar put a boot on the ball that sailed high of the net. The Yellow Jackets held and registered the final two shots to claim the victory.

Randolph-Macon held a 17-2 edge on shots over the Quakers while claiming a 7-1 edge on corner kicks.

Grim finished the contest with six saves. Lindsay Zachman started the first half for the Yellow Jackets while Christina Newman finished the second half to earned the combined shutout.
