CHAPEL HILL — Taylor Rowland of Cox Mill High School and Luke Bennett from Voyager Academy have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Rowland, a junior at Cox Mill on the volleyball team, helped lead the Chargers to an undefeated season and a 3A State Championship as the Chargers beat Chapel hill in the Championship match three sets to none. Rowland had 22 kills in the match, leading all players as she was named the M.V.P. of the 3A title game. The Cox Mill Volleyball team finished 34-0 on the year, winning the first volleyball state championship in school history.
Bennett, a senior at Voyager Academy, won the 1A Mideast Cross Country regionals just seven days before winning the 1A State Meet in dominating fashion. He won both meets by an average of over 11 seconds. This week he verbally committed to continue his education and athletic career at Appalachian State.
TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week.
