Game Report on Greensboro Day-Northwest Guilford Boys Basketball:Bengals’ Defensive Effort brings HAECO Tournament Title to Lawndale Drive again(2011-2016)

GREENSBORO DAY 54, NORTHWEST GUILFORD 36

GAME NOTES: In a matchup that all of Guilford County wanted to see, the championship game of the HAECO Invitational Tournament between Greensboro Day School and Northwest Guilford was somewhat anti-climactic as the Bengals were able to overpower the Vikings in every aspect of the game.

The GDS victory by a score of 54-36, was the result of a disciplined, team effort that minimized mistakes and displayed a well-executed game plan. The Vikings were unable to get on track at any point in the game and credit should go to the GDS defensive effort.

Northwest had a number of uncharacteristic turnovers and missed field goals, not to mention a slew of missed free throws that could have trimmed their deficit at different moments during the game. After being down by 9 points at the half, Northwest could not get their deficit below 7 points in the 2nd half.

The Vikings were led by Tre Turner’s 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. Reggie Davis provided 9 points and 7 rebounds while Thomas Hennigan contributed 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals for Northwest.

Greensboro Day was led by John Newman and J.P. Moorman who scored 16 and 10 points respectively for the Bengals.
