+++++(The “Whistle Man” was heavily involved with what was going on at Smith tonight and not sure which team he is with, and it might just be thing where you jump in with the team that is on top at a given moment in the game. 1. @ Andy, no game report on that GDS game? Come on, surely there is something about the Almighty Freddie Johnson All-Star squad…

  2. Maybe a key note from that GDS-Charlotte Christian game here…

The Charlotte Christian Knights’ sophomore big man BJ Mack, a Virginia Tech recruit, led all scorers with 17 points, including 11 in the second half. Mack also had 10 rebounds and seven assists.

  3. Congrats to NWG girls, beating a team that went 47-54 over the last 4 years. If you are gonna travel why not come play a team in the area that usually wins states? oh, here is one, travel to Washington DC to play two teams that are not even as good as the local average Triad talent. We hear the big talk all the way down here and we cant wait for one of our MANY teams that can and will beat you in states. Hope you don’t do the normal 1 or 2 and out (outside of last two years respectable team) so we can see you in the round of 16!!

  4. I think you should post the age instead of grade to get true since of who is playing who, 18 and 19 year olds playing against 15 and 16 year olds.

  5. Charlotte strong.. NWG have whipped yall in last 3 years. Bring it on. Btw who went to states last year

  6. wrong, NWG lost to Myers park (charlotte) two years ago by 20 in the final 4. Last year lost to another big city team in Millbrook in the finals. And FYI tons of teams “go to” states, 64 teams to be exact. Only teams that should be able to “claim” going to states is the final 8 and NWG girls have only made that 3 times in forever, two of them being the last two years by the aforementioned legitimate team.

  7. I said I give props to the team NWG has over last two years. Other than them, the previous teams had beat NO Charlotte team in playoffs, EVER.

  8. A couple of nice wins by Southeast Guilford girls over Charlotte area teams in the playoffs back in 2013…

Southeast Guilford @ Ardrey Kell (Charlotte, NC)
    Location: Ardrey Kell High School
2013 North Carolina Girls State Basketball Playoff
    41 – 38 Southeast Guilford Win

Southeast Guilford @ Myers Park (Charlotte, NC)
    Location: Myers Park High School
2013 North Carolina Girls State Basketball Playoff
    48 – 45 Southeast Guilford Win

  9. Nice wins by the Southwest Guilford Cowgirls vs. the Charlotte area teams last year in 2016 and then NWG knocked off SWG in the regional final….

    Southwest Guilford Cowgirls…

Southwest Guilford @ Mallard Creek (Charlotte, NC)
    Location: Mallard Creek High School
    2016 NCHSAA Women’s Basketball State Championships –
    59 – 54 Southwest Guilford Win
    2/27

Southwest Guilford vs. Charlotte Catholic (Charlotte, NC)
    Location: Southwest Guilford High School
    2016 NCHSAA Women’s Basketball State Championships –
    55 – 42 Southwest Guilford Cowgirls Win
    3/1

Southwest Guilford @ Ardrey Kell (Charlotte, NC)
    Location: Ardrey Kell High School
    2016 NCHSAA Women’s Basketball State Championships –
    51 – 46 Southwest Guilford Win

  10. I was referring to NWG, they always come into playoffs with great records and either choke or aren’t prepared or whatever. Again, this aside from last two years.

  11. @Charlotte Strong your rant intrigued me.

I can’t speak for the team NWG girls played last night. Just that they were 11-2 going into the game. For the DC teams according to Max Preps – NWG beat Roosevelt in DC by 14pt and Roosevelt just beat Providence Day by double digits. The other team NW played but lost to by 5 in DC was St. Frances who is currently ranked 19th in the nation according to Max Preps. Now what was average about those two DC teams. As far as NW losing to Myers Park in 2015. Any team with upper classmen Mazyck, Rogers, and Timpton on it was not going to be beat as they only lost 4 games in 3 years. So how would NWG losing to them be an underachievement. As far as questioning this years team it looks like they are young as maxpreps shows 3 fr, 3 so, 4 jr, and only 1 sr. It looks like they have a lot of young size that you will not want to see a year from now. Instead of worrying about the young NWG team you should be concerned about the Charlotte smashing team of Southwest Guilford. They knocked off Mallard Creek, Charlotte Catholic, and Ardrey Kell last year and return their whole starting lineup this year. If NWG has not been test yet for the playoffs they will be with their 3 meetings over the next few weeks with Southwest Guilford. SWG is the favorite this year as the senior heavy NWG team of last year was the only thing that stopped them from winning it all last year. Guilford Strong!!!

  12. If you wanna use MAxxpreps as a reliable source then how are you touting SWG? Maxxpreps has them terribly low? Maxxpreps formula for ranking is nuts anyway, rarely does a maxxpreps #1 win states? As far as the youth on NWG, possibly correct, but then again from my observation the youth excuse doesn’t fly anymore, as much experience as the youth has they should by now be taking better shows and far less shot and playing more as a team esp considering they have two solid bigs. Which will end up their demise in the long run.
