Elon WBB Leads All Mid-Majors in Latest NCAA RPI

ELON, N.C. – In the latest release of the NCAA Women’s Basketball RPI, Elon University checked in at No. 24 on the list, which ranks as the highest mid-major in the poll.

NCAA RPI List

The ranking, the highest in program history, comes in the midst of Elon’s seven-game winning streak. The current run marks the most consecutive wins under head coach Charlotte Smith to date and is the first time Elon has won seven games in a row since the 2010-11 season.

Helping Elon’s jump in the list is early-season victories over Rutgers – the program’s first win over a Big Ten opponent – Central Michigan and Bucknell. All three of Elon’s CAA victories thus far have also come over teams ranked No. 151 or better in this week’s RPI. The conference wins include a road win at Drexel, which was ranked No. 1 in last week’s ESPN Mid-Major poll.

Elon, currently 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the CAA, returns to action Friday, Jan. 13, on the road against College of Charleston. Opening tip is set for 6:30 p.m. inside TD Arena. The Phoenix topped CofC last Monday, Jan. 2, at home by the final score of 70-57 to open CAA play. All-time, Elon and Charleston have battled 28 times with each team earning 14 wins.
