Students from Western Alamance & North Pitt earn Performance Of The Week Awards

CHAPEL HILL — Morgan Haith from Western Alamance High School and Devonte Pettaway from North Pitt High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Haith, a junior on the Western Alamance women’s basketball team, tallied 26 points as her team was able to slide by Eastern Guilford 63-57. She also added 11 points in a loss against Northeast Guilford. Her Coach, Dexter Robinson, said “She contributed on both ends of the floor, grabbing rebounds, providing assists in addition to being a vocal leader on the floor.

Pettaway, a senior on the North Pitt hoops team, scored 42 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as North Pitt came up short against Beddingfield 85-82. Just two days later he dumped in 35 points and snatched 7 boards as the Panthers clipped SouthWest Edgecombe 76-73. He is averaging 26.6 points per game and eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for his career during the week.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
