HPU Women & Men’s track finishes day one of Virginia Tech Invitational

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s track & field team completed the first day of the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday in Blacksburg, Va.

Four Panthers finished in the top 16 in the 3000m run as senior Natalia Ocasio finished eighth with a time of 10:28.20, senior Cozette Collin finished 11th with a time of 10:39.44, freshman Zoe Geis finished 12th with a time of 10:42.24 and freshman Kylie Hennessey finished 16th with a time of 10:57.76.

Freshman Kanajzae Brown was the top finisher among a group of four runners in the 60m preliminaries, placing 13th with a time of 7.83. Senior Amanda Gregory finished in 23rd with a time of 8.11, junior Mikaela Campbell finished in 24th with a time of 8.22 and freshman Samantha Swackhammer finished in 34th with a time of 8.76.

In the 500m run, junior CeAnna Soper was the top finisher, placing 11th with a time of 1:23.70. She was followed by sophomore Cory Wilson who finished 12th with a time of 1:26.68 and senior Erika Bridges who finished 13th with a time of 1:30.63.

Gregory also competed in the long jump, finishing ninth in the event with a jump of 5.33m (17-6).

The Panthers remain in Blacksburg for day two of the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday.


HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s track & field team completed the first day of the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday in Blacksburg, Va.

Junior James House posted the best Panther finish on the track for the day, placing 13th in the 60m preliminaries with a time of 6.96. The junior’s time was just seven hundreds of a second off the time needed to qualify for the final.

Also on the track, freshman Jake Dunn (1:08.43) and senior Nick Williams (1:09.18) finished 15th and 18th respectively in the 500m run. Sophomore Patrick Van Der Cruyssen finished in 16th in the mile run with a time of 4:24.27. Freshman Pablo Romero Gonzalez finished 16th in the 60m hurdle preliminaries with a time of 8.75 and the 300m run with a time of 36.11.

In throws action, sophomore Britton Mann finished in ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.90m (42-4).

The Panthers remain in Blacksburg for day two of the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday.
