Elon’s Track and Field Heads to Wake Forest Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team journeys to the JDL Fast Track Complex for the Wake Forest Invitational this Saturday, Jan. 21, with field and running events kicking off at 9:30 a.m.

Setting the Stage
The Phoenix is expected to have 25 of its athletes in competition this weekend. A number of members on the distance side will make their indoor season debuts in Melissa Anastasakis (800-meters, distance medley relay), Brigid Brennan (distance medley relay), Grace Dellapa (one-mile), Coralea Geraniotis (distance medley relay) and Sophia Tasselmyer (one-mile).

Last Time Out
Elon competed at the Virginia Tech Invitational last weekend, Jan. 13-14, inside the Rector Field House for its second indoor meet of the season. Lauren Brzozowski won the 400-meters with a time of 58.11 in the race and was also sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 25.50. Desiree Ross was eighth in the 200-meters with her time of 25.64 and also set a new personal-record in the 300-meters with a 40.78 – third-best performance in school history.

In the shot put, Bre’anna Warren nearly matched her personal-best in the event with a heave of 45’ 7” (13.89m) and was sixth overall. Bryanna Hames was seventh with her heave of 44′ 3.5″ (13.50m).

ECAC Qualifying List
The maroon and gold currently have three members of the team that have qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in Boston on March 2-5. Senior Kimberly Johansen holds the second-fastest time in the ECACs in the one-mile with a time of 4:47.00. Warren is 14th in the shot put with a heave of 45’ 7.25” (13.90m) while Hames is 20th at 45’ 2.25” (13.77m).
