Jamestown, NC – –

Both the Eagles of East Forsyth and the Tigers of Ragsdale come into tonight’s Piedmont Triad 4A conference game with a loss to SW Guilford in their previous game played. East Forsyth has owned this match-up in recent years, winning 4 of the previous 5 games over Ragsdale. The Tigers were just simply looking to get back in the win column, having dropped their first three conference games. In front of a frenzied home-standing crowd, the Tigers and Eagles battled in a hotly contested high school basketball game.

After a slow start with both teams sloppy out of the gate, the Tigers Devan Boykin opened the scoring in the 1st quarter at the 5:45 mark. The teams would trade baskets throughout the 1st period, as the Tigers would lead 9-7 after one. Tre Goode ignited a Ragsdale 8-0 run in the 2nd quarter, but the Eagles would come back and pull within three points at halftime, with Ragsdale leading 24-21.

A three-pointer by the Eagles on the opening possession of the 2nd half would immediately tie the game. From here on out, it was a dead heat through the 3rd quarter with the score tied at 41 after three periods.

East Forsyth would go on a run and take a 6 point lead with 3 minutes remaining in the game, but the Tigers kept clawing back. Brycen Thomas hit two three-pointers to help lead the charge and tie the game. With 25 seconds remaining, East Forsyth had possession of the ball with a chance to win the game. Solid defense by Ragsdale would then force a turnover with 7.9 seconds left. After a timeout, Ragsdale had a shot in the lane that would have won the game, but it hit off the back rim and off. The game was going to overtime, tied at 53.

Ragsdale would win the opening tip of overtime and score to take a quick two point lead in OT. The Eagles Hysheam Weston would immediately answer on the other end to tie the game yet again. With just under a minute remaining, Ragsdale would run a set play that resulted in Nick Coleman burying a three-pointer from the right wing to give the Tigers a 60-57 lead. The Eagles came down and got a bucket in the paint from Shemarr Watkins to cut their deficit to one point at 60-59. Nick Coleman was fouled on the next possession for the Tigers. He would miss both of his free throws, however Tre Goode came up with a huge offensive rebound off the missed free throw and would score quickly to give the Tigers the 62-59 lead with 20 seconds remaining in OT. East Forsyth drew up a set play in a timeout and had a shot to tie the game yet again, but the shot would not fall.

Ragsdale would hold on to win over East Forsyth, 62-59 in Overtime.

Ragsdale was led by Nick Coleman with a double-double (14 points, 13 rebounds). Tre Goode and Brycen Thomas also chipped in 11 points a piece. Shemarr Watkins led the Eagles with a game-high 15 points on the evening.
