WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region voting committee have released its preseason poll and preseason All-Atlantic Region teams, and Winston-Salem State was voted seventh, and sophomore, Randy Norris(Dudley HS) was voted as All-Atlantic Region.
The Rams are coming off of a 31-22 season that saw WSSU finish runner-up in the CIAA Baseball Championship last season. It marked the first time since adding baseball back to the athletic program that the Rams did not win the conference title and advance to the NCAA Regional.
Sophomore second baseman, Randy Norris(Dudley HS), was selected to the preseason Atlantic Region second team. Norris hit .351 as a freshman (3rd on team), and led the team in hits (61), finished with 11 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 35 runs batted in.
The WSSU Rams open the season on February 3rd, at BB&T Ballpark in downtown Winston-Salem, as the Rams will open the season with a tough opponent, Millersville University. The Rams and Marauders will play at 4:00pm on the 3rd, 1:00pm on February 4th, and 1:00 pm on February 5th.
Millersville, coming off a 2016 season in which it went 53-7, won the NCAA Atlantic Regional and advance to the NCAA Championship series, where they fell to Nova Southeastern.
