Elon Womens Track & Field Begins Competition at Camel City Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Briana O’Grady set a new personal-record in the weight throw for the third straight week as the Elon University women’s track and field team opened competition at the Camel City Invitational on Friday, Feb. 3, inside the JDL Fast Track Complex.

RESULTS

O’Grady had a toss of 52’ 4.50” (15.96m) in the weight throw and was seventh overall in the event. The South Kingstown, R.I., native broke her previous personal-best throw of 51’ 5.75” (15.69m) that she had set just a week ago at the Darius Dixon Invitational. O’Grady’s mark also was just .01 meter short of tying for the second-best mark in school history.

Fellow senior Carrie Abraham had a top-10 standing in the long jump after finishing with a leap of 17’ 5.50” (5.32m). Junior Emily Dixon was tied for second in the unseeded high jump with a cleared height of 5’ 1.25” (1.56m).

In the 800-meters, Chelsea Smith ran a time of 2:16.38 in the race as the Phoenix’s top finisher in the event at 13th. Desiree Ross clocked a 58.63 in the 400-meters and was 12th while Katie Arbogast was 14th with her time of 58.68.

The Phoenix concludes the final day of the Camel City Invitational tomorrow, Feb. 4, with the meet kicking off at 9 a.m.
