Elon’s Asher Earns First CAA WLAX Player of the Week Honor of 2017

RICHMOND, Va. – Stephanie Asher, a junior on the Elon University women’s lacrosse team, was tabbed the CAA’s first conference Player of the Week of the 2017 season on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Asher led Elon to a big 15-5 victory over Campbell on Saturday, Feb. 4, in Elon’s season opener. The attacker netted five goals and picked up a team-high four draw controls in the win over the Camels. Asher scored two of Elon’s first three goals of the game as Elon built its 5-0 lead in the first 4:27 of game action and added three more goals in the second half to help put the game out of reach.

The honor marks Asher’s second conference Player of the Week award. She also earned the distinction on Feb. 25, 2016. Before the 2017 season, Asher was selected a member of the 2016 Preseason All-CAA team.

Towson senior defender Kelly McQuilkin was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week and James Madison’s Halle Duenkel was tabbed CAA Rookie of the Week.

Elon returns to action Saturday, Feb. 11, on the road at Virginia. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. in Charlottesville and will air on ACC Network Extra. The Phoenix and Cavaliers have never met. Virginia checked in at No. 14 in the preseason IWLCA rankings and Saturday’s game will be the season-opener for the Cavaliers.
