College Women’s Swimming Results – Guilford Seventh After First Day of ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Carolyn O’Halloran (Summerfield, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) posted the second-fastest 50-yard freestyle time in Guilford College history Friday night at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swimming Championships in the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The rookie also anchored the Quakers’ two seventh-place relays, which helped Guilford to seventh place among nine teams at the end of the championships’ second session.

Nine-time defending meet champion Washington and Lee University won all five events and set four meet records Friday to open a sizable lead over second-place Randolph-Macon College. The Generals have 334 points after Friday’s competition, more than twice Randolph-Macon’s second-place total of 163. The Quakers sit seventh with 50 points, just 10 points out of the fifth position.

In Friday’s morning session, O’Halloran qualified for the 50 freestyle ‘B’ final with a 15th-place time of 26.63 seconds that stood fifth in school history before her evening time. While she did not improve her standing in the B final, she did lower her personal-best time to 26.41 seconds, 0.14 second shy of Lauren Truelove’s school standard set at the 2006 ODAC Championships.

O’Halloran anchored the Quakers’ 200-freesty relay team that finished seventh in a time of five minutes flat. Isabel Gutierrez, Hannah Rouse (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford), Kate Nunke and O’Halloran had the morning’s sixth-best time (1:58.53) to qualify for the Friday night’s ‘A’ final. Guilford placed seventh with a time of 1:58.70.

The same quartet comprised coach Ashley Cox’s 400 medley relay, which also finished in seventh place. The team swam a 5:02.35 in the morning, the seventh-best time of the session, and followed with a 5:00.00 in the final, which also ranked seventh.

Competition at the three-day event resumes Saturday (2/10) at 10:00 a.m. For full coverage of the meet, including live results and video, visit the ODAC Swimming Championships webpage at http://www.odaconline.com/tournament/swim/index.
