College Track and Field Results – Guilford’s Fanney Claims Top Ten at Finn Pincus Invitational

SALEM, Va. – Guilford College’s Sommer Fanney (Burlington, N.C./Williams) claimed a top-ten finish in this weekend’s Finn Piscus Invitational at Roanoke College. The meet featured athletes from all NCAA divisions, but primarily Division III schools and Old Dominion Athletic Conference members.

Fanney placed seventh in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:20.32, the winning time in her section. The finish stands second all-time in school history and she was 18 seconds away from sixth place, which would have placed her two seconds off the school record. Fanney ran her final lap 7.87 second faster than her second-fastest lap.

Alise Green advanced into the semifinals of the 60 meter dash. Her time qualified within the top 25 to earn a spot in the next round, running her preliminary time at 8.50 seconds, good for 24th place. The mark also stands as the new school record by .04 seconds. She finished 24th in the semifinals, just .03 seconds off the old record, with a time of 8.57 seconds.

Becca Benfield was just .06 meters off of a top ten finish in the shot put. Benfield placed 11th with a mark of 10.60 meters. The mark breaks her own record in the shot put by .21 meters where she holds all the school’s top-eight marks.

Nate Phillips led the men with a 12th-place finish in the long jump. He finished with a mark of 6.29 meters. The mark was .13 meters off of a top-ten finish and .05 meters away from 11th place while claiming second place in his section.

Jonny Sumner placed 19th in the 400 meter run, finishing with a time of 53.82 seconds. Sumner was .1 second off of the next-highest spot while he was third place in his heat.

Caleb Amstutz and Colin Dossel (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) led the distance runners with Amstutz placing 27th in the mile run with a time of 4:52.71, just 2.35 seconds off of the top 25. Dossel was 5.5 seconds off the top 25 in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:12.54 seconds.

Coach Danny Cash’s Quakers return to the track next Saturday for the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., the final meet before the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships.
