Elon Track and Field Concludes Day at Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A few more members of the Elon University women’s track and field team qualified their way to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships as the Phoenix closed out its final day at the Liberty Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 11, inside the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

FINAL RESULTS

The Phoenix’s 4×400-meter relay team of Desiree Ross, Katie Arbogast, Lydia Laws and Lauren Brzozowski finished as the runner-up in the event with a time of 3:49.96 – the third-fastest time in school history. That effort also qualified the quartet for the ECACs.

Carrie Abraham joined the 4×400-meter relay team to qualify for the ECACs in the triple jump. Abraham had a leap of 38’ 8.75” (11.80m) and was fifth overall. Fellow senior Jayna Coyle set a new personal-record while just missing out on qualifying for the ECACs with her mark of 38’ 2” (11.63m), which was sixth overall. Freshman Melody Burke finished in the top-10 with her leap of 37’ 5” (11.40m), which is also a new personal-best.

Ross was Elon’s top finisher in the 400-meters with her time of 57.68 and was fourth overall. Brzozowski and Arbogast were eighth and ninth with times of 58.61 and 58.67, respectively.

Melissa Anastasakis was fourth in the one-mile run with a time of 4:59.50 followed by teammate Brigid Brennan, who was fifth with a 5:00.57.

In the shot put, Bre’anna Warren set a new personal-record with her toss of 48’ 4” (14.73m) while finishing as the runner-up. Bryanna Hames was third with her heave of 47’ 3.75” (14.42m).

The Phoenix will next compete at meets at the Virginia Tech Invitational (Feb. 17) and the UCS Challenge (Feb. 18) to close out the indoor regular season.
