Elon Baseball’s Welhaf Earns National Honor

TUCSON, Ariz. – After throwing the first no-hitter at the NCAA Division I level in program history, Elon University junior right-handed pitcher Robbie Welhaf has been selected among Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Welhaf needed just 100 pitches to shutdown the Longwood Lancers in the Phoenix’s 7-0 victory on Saturday, Feb. 18. In just his third career start, Welhaf faced just one batter over the minimum and retired 16 consecutive Longwood hitters at one point in the nine-inning outing. The Doylestown, Pa., native struck out a career-high eight hitters and walked just one batter.

Welhaf’s no-hitter was the first in NCAA Division I baseball this year.

The Phoenix will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 21 when Elon hosts Radford at 4 p.m.
