Looking ahead toward Round Two of the NCHSAA Basketball Playoffs coming up on Thursday(Looking back at Richmond County over Charlotte Vance 123-118 last night)

They say it is not good to be looking ahead too far, but here’s to looking back and looking up today and looking forward to Thursday and Round Two of the NCHSAA Basketball Playoffs…

We started out with Boys and Girls teams from:
Page, Dudley, Smith, Northwest Guilford, Southwest Guilford, Northern Guilford, Eastern Guilford, Northeast Guilford, Southern Guilford, High Point Andrews and that would give us 20 teams and you add in solo squads from Southeast Guilford(girls), Ragsdale(girls), High Point Central(boys), Western Guilford(boys) and when you factor in the teams from Guilford County that did not get into the NCHSAA Playoffs that comes out to 30 teams and that is our “Magic Number” for Guilford County teams…Teams not in Grimsley(2), SEG(1), WG(1), Ragsdale(1), High Point Central(1) and those six added to the 24 that got in gives us again, that “Magic Number” of 30 total teams from Guilford County…

Quick math? Maybe, maybe not, but time to move on to Step Two, or Round Two of the NCHSAA Playoffs…

Here is how it stacks up for the teams we still have IN, as we head into Round #2….
Boys and girls teams remain in from Page, Dudley, Northwest Guilford, Southwest Guilford, Northern Guilford, Eastern Guilford and that is it for the dual occupancy for our Guilford County teams as we hit Round Two….Solo units checking in and staying in from Smith(boys), Southeast Guilford(girls), Northeast Guilford(girls), Southern Guilford(boys), High Point Central(boys), High Point Andrews(boys), and that should give us a total of 18 teams left, as we hit Round Two….Eighteen of thirty teams due to hit the hardwoods on Thursday night and 18 of 30 is not too bad, with one round down and several more to go….

And now for who the teams will be playing?????

That is coming your way in detail soon, so stay tuned….

On Thursday night we will find these matchups, as we journey into Round Two of the high school basketball playoffs….

*****Interesting note from Langston Wertz Jr. at the Charlotte Observer on last night’s/Tuesday’s Round One games with Richmond County topping Charlotte Vance….
Cam Hamilton, Charlotte Vance: In his final high school game produced a career-high 63 points against Richmond Senior. Hamilton made 25-of-40 field goal attempts, including 6-of-10 3-pointers. He had nine rebounds, five steals and three assists. The 63 points is a Mecklenburg County record, breaking the 16-year-old mark of 53 set by Providence Day’s Taylor Mokris. The 63 points is believed to be the highest scored by any N.C. player this season and ranks No. 3 in state history all-time. The 25 made field goals tied a state record and Hamilton was just four points away from another — the 67-year-old record of 67 points set by Clayton’s Bob Poole.

241: Richmond Senior and Vance combined for 241 points in the Raiders’ 123-118 win over Vance in the first round of the NCHSAA playoffs. That’s the second most points ever scored in an NCHSAA game, just behind the 245 for East Meck and Harding in November of 2000. Of course, East-Harding went three overtimes and Vance-Richmond was 32 minutes of racehorse regulation.

  1. We have 18 teams going into play on Thursday night…

We could be down to 4-6 teams after the games tomorrow night…

    Who stays, who goes???

Do you see these teams staying?
    Southwest Guilford boys
Eastern Guilford boys and they have a tough one, Southern Durham beat Western Guilford by 40 on Tuesday night…
Northwest Guilford girls….At (25-2) strong and they need Liz Kitley to return(health issues) to insure victory…
Northern Guilford girls…Might not get the Major test until Regional Finals…
And if we are going for at least six, who are the other two..
Dudley girls, would set up a matchup at NWG on Saturday…
Page girls, seeded higher with Hough at home…Must get off to a much better start than they did on Tuesday night…
Page boys, if they win on the road, then they would travel to Southwest Guilford on Saturday…

    Who stays and who goes???
Dudley boys at home, and do they get the home win?

At home we have SWG boys, EG boys, Page girls, NG girls, NWG girls, Dudley boys, HP Andrews boys and with the road games, who will be those 4-6, 5-7 or 8 teams left after Thursday night and going into Saturday’s sectional finals?????

Who will move on to Round Three???
Do the NWG boys top North Meck on the road, that is another key question????

Who will it be, when we hit Round Three, on Saturdee?
Do you go with SWG boys, EG boys, NG girls, NWG girls, Dudley girls and Page boys or girls, and HP Andrews’ boys might be that sleeper and maybe the Dudley boys make Magic home….

Gonna be a Tight Rope on Thursday night….
