College Indoor Track and Field Results – Guilford’s Fanney Places Top Ten Twice at ODAC Championships

SALEM, Va. – Guilford College’s Sommer Fanney (Burlington, N.C./Williams) notched two top-ten finishes in Sunday’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Championships at Roanoke College. The women placed ninth with six points while the men placed ninth with seven points.

Fanney took an eighth-place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31.19. The time is the second-fastest time in school history, where she holds the top-three spots in school history. Fanney also placed eighth in the mile run with a time of 5:32.52. The time narrowly missed breaking her own school record set last week by .5 seconds.

Becca Benfield added another top-ten finish for the women, placing tenth in the weight throw with a mark of 10.29 meters. The mark stands sixth all-time in school history.

Nate Phillips led the men with a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.41 meters. Phillips was part of a three-way tie for fifth with three guys at the same high mark, but took the sitxth

Tim Marshall added a tenth-place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.23 seconds. Marshall was just .06 seconds off the final qualifying time for the championship race. He also placed 19th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.16 seconds.

The Quakers now turn their focus to outdoor season, which begins March 10th-11th at the Seahawk Invitational at UNC-Wilmington.
