Elon Women’s Golf Starts Spring with Top-10 Finish at Kiawah Island Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Elon University women’s golf team improved four spots in the final round to earn a top-10 finish at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The Phoenix finished tied for seventh out of 43 teams with a three-round total of 885 (+21).

FINAL RESULTS

Elon carded the third-lowest team score of any squad on the final day, shooting a combined 6-under par. Aurelia Hamm led the Phoenix with a 3-under par 68 in the final round. Four of Elon’s five players shot even par or better over their final 18 holes.

Coastal Carolina captured the team title for the second straight year, beating College of Charleston by one stroke. College of Charleston’s Laura Fuenfstueck won the individual title at 8-under par.

The Highlights
Leading the way for the Phoenix was Heather Munro, who earned the eighth top-10 finish of her career. Munro closed with a 72 that put her alone in sixth place at 213 (-3).

Hamm posted a career-low round of 68 to improve 20 spots and finish alone in 16th place at 218 (+2). Hamm’s bogey-free round included four birdies, three of which came on the final four holes.

Kelsey Badmaev shot her best round of the event on the final day, a 1-under par 71. The senior improved her position each day of the tournament and moved up 29 spots into a tie for 47th at 225 (+9).

Five birdies helped Hilda Kristjansdottir to a final round mark of 71. Kristjansdottir finished tied for 86th at 230 (+14).

Anali Otazo Rodas shot 78 in the final round and finished tied for 185th with a three-day total of 244 (+28).

Notes
– Heather Munro’s sixth-place finish marked the eighth top-10 finish of her career. The junior was an All-CAA First Team selection in 2016.
– Aurelia Hamm shot a 68 in the final round, the lowest round of her career as a Phoenix. The sophomore’s 16th-place finish is her best since finishing tied for 13th at the 2016 CAA Championships.
