HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Through 36 holes, High Point University men’s golf’s freshman Alec Weary is tied atop the leaderboard at the Wexner Plantation Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.

“For the first day back, the guys did a good job and I am proud of the way everyone stayed in it and regrouped for the second round, which was close to being a great round,” head coach Brady Gregor said. “We have some things that we need to address before tomorrow’s round, but we are only 11 shots out of the lead and we definitely have the firepower to put us back in the hunt if we get started quickly.”

Weary opened the day with six birdies through the first 18 holes to kick off a great day for the Bluffton, S.C. product. He finished the first round with a -1 (71) before repeating that performance with another -1 (71) in the second round.

“I am really proud of the way Alec carried himself today throughout his rounds,” Gregor continued. “It really showed how he has matured after getting his first semester of college under his belt. As for his game, it speaks for itself.”

Overall, Weary is in a three-way tie for first place heading into the second day, while the team enters the final day in ninth but is just three strokes from sixth.
