High Point Men’s Basketball Falls to Gardner-Webb in Big South Quarters

• Redshirt-senior Miles Bowman Jr. recorded a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds, his 12th double-double of the season
• Senior Anthony Lindauer added 11 points
• Senior Tarique Thompson tallied nine points

ROCK HILL, N.C.—The fifth-seeded High Point University men’s basketball team fell to Gardner-Webb, the No. 4 seed, 91-55, in the quarterfinals of the Big South Championship Thursday night (March 2) at the Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill, S.C.

Redshirt-senior Miles Bowman Jr. led the Panthers (15-16) with 21 points and 14 rebounds, his team-leading 12th double-double of the season. Senior Anthony Lindauer added 11 points, while fellow senior Tarique Thompson tallied nine.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs (19-13) jumped out to an 11-2 lead and controlled most of the game, shooting 49.2 percent, while holding the Panthers to 27.4 percent shooting.

“We were beat by a team that was well prepared,” HPU head coach Scott Cherry said. “They shot lights out, played really well and we weren’t very good.”

Gardner-Webb led 32-17 with 4:35 to go in the first half when LaQuincy Rideau was called for a technical foul. After that, High Point outscored the Runnin’ Bulldogs 13-7 the rest of the half.

Bowman Jr. recorded 11 rebounds in the first half, the 14th time this season he has had 10 or more boards in a game.

GWU opened the second half on a 19-2 run, including five 3-pointers.

It was the third time the two schools have faced each other in the Big South Championship, with Gardner-Webb now leading 2-1.
