GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Trevor Denton tallied three doubles and three RBI as the Quakers claimed a Sunday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) over Lynchburg College, 12-1.

A pair of doubles from Denton and Rocco Wilcox started the Quakers’ (9-6, 1-1 ODAC) strong in the opening inning as Denton drove home Wilcox for the game’s first run. The Quakers faced two outs in the bottom of the second inning when Josh Shepherd knocked a two-run single up the middle to provide cushion for starting pitcher John Todd.

Both sides traded quick innings in the next two frames while Nathan Sharp put Lynchburg on the board in the top of the fourth inning on a two-out single to right field. Todd faced a bases loaded situation later in the inning, but sat down Tyler Wood for his second strikeout of the inning to retire the Hornets.

The Quakers exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning with a six-run rally where four of their six runs came with no outs while the final two runs came with one out. Denton’s first double of the day accounted for Guilford’s first two runs of the inning while Andrew Brann followed with a RBI-walk and Logan Washle followed with a RBI-single. Ryan Hill closed the rally with the second RBI-walk of the inning.

Denton’s fourth hit of the day drove in another run in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out single as the Quakers loaded the bases. Brann provided an exclamation to point to the win, leading off the bottom of the eighth inning with a home run over the left field wall for his first home run of the season.

Denton finished four-for-five to lead the Quakers while Washle tallied Guilford’s second multi-hit effort with a three-for-four effort with one RBI. Josh Shepherd was the remaining bat for the Quakers that connected on multiple hits, batting two-for-four while helping the Quakers turn two double plays at shortstop.

Sharp was the lone Hornets bat with a multi-hit effort, batting two-for-four on his one-RBI afternoon.

Todd (3-0) struck out two and walked two in his six-inning effort, earning the victory for the Quakers. Todd recorded eight-straight outs to open the contest and faced the minimum through three innings. Ty Walser threw two innings of relief, fanning one, while Logan Jones struck out the final batter in his one-inning effort to close the game.
