GREENSBORO, N.C. – Josh Shepherd had three hits and four runs batted in to help Guilford College past Dean College, 8-3, in nonconference baseball action Monday.

Shepherd smacked a run-scoring single in Guilford’s five-run fourth inning that saw the Quakers (10-6) send 10 batters to the plate. He added a two-run single with two outs in the fifth, along with a run-scoring hit in the seventh that scored Guilford’s eighth and final run.

Logan Washle and Austin Wilson added two hits apiece as the bottom third of Guilford’s lineup generated five of the Quakers’ 12 hits and six runs. Catcher Ryan Hill went one-for-four with an RBI single and gunned down all three would-be Bulldogs’ basestealers.

Caleb Gaster (2-0) threw a scoreless fourth and earned the victory. Joe LeNoir and Mitchell Stumpo threw perfect frames in the third and eighth, respectively.

Aldo Ripley paced Dean’s offense with two hits, including a solo home run in the ninth inning. Dean recorded five of its nine hits in the game’s first two innings, but managed just one run. Jason Bottone (0-1) took the loss in the first college start, despite yielding one earned run in 3.2 innings.
