Consideration for Naming the new Western Guilford High School Gymnasium
Pursuant to our procedure on the naming of school facilities (FDCA-P), the Facilities Committee has received input from our citizens regarding the naming of the new gymnasium at Western Guilford High School. The name “Bill Hollifield Gymnasium” has been submitted by members of the Western Guilford High School community.
Bill Hollifiled served in a variety of roles including educator, assistant head football coach, head wrestling coach and assistant track coach at Guilford Middle School and Western Guilford High School for 33 years. He was twice named Western Guilford Teacher of the Year and received the honor of Conference Wrestling Coach of the Year several times. Mr. Hollifield retired from Guilford County Schools in 1999 and passed away in 2008.
RECOMMENDATION: The Facilities Committee recommends that the Board reviews the nomination for consideration in naming the new Western Guilford High School Gymnasium and open a 30-day period of public comment in order seek comments on the proposed name.

I say YES for the names on both of those gyms at Western Guilford High School.
The Bill Hollifield Gym the time has come and the Andy Durham Gym, the time is now.
Both have meant a lot to our community.
I have cast my vote and I vote YES and if I include my entire family, that would be 25 YES votes. I do come from a large family. Brothers, sisters, aunts, uncle, cousins, wife and kids, count us in.

Two of the biggest names in Western Guilford sports history, there is no doubt about that….
I put my vote in for the Bill Hollifield Gym, but I feel the Charles Manson jury is still out on the Andy Durham gym.
