Elon’s Harwood Claims CAA Men’s Golfer of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Following his first-career individual title at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, Elon University men’s golf freshman William Harwood has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association’s Co-Men’s Golfer of the Week today, March 15, as announced by the league office.

Harwood won his first-career individual title and helped the Phoenix claim a tie for second at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, March 11-12. The Columbia, S.C. native clinched his first individual title posting a final round of 71 (E) and carded a final 54-hole score of 3-over par (73-72-71–216) for the tournament. Harwood had an impressive final round sinking five birdies, which included four on the front nine, to card an even-par 71 on Saturday. Elon also earned a runner-up finish as a team for the second consecutive year at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.

The freshman is Elon’s second individual champion this season. Jake Leavitt earned a share of the individual title at the Phoenix Invitational. The Phoenix earned a top-three team finish for the fourth consecutive tournament dating back to the Phoenix Invitational in October.

The weekly honor is the first for Harwood and is the third Phoenix to earn the honor this season. In addition to Jared Mactas earning the honor on March 1, Leavitt was tabbed as CAA Golfer of the Week on Oct. 16 after the Phoenix Invitational.

The Phoenix heads to Orlando, Fla., March 18-19, to compete in the Mission Inn Spectacular. George Mason hosts the tournament at the the Mission Inn Resort.
