Elon Women’s Tennis Sweeps Barton College, 7-0

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team closed out their five-match homestand with a 7-0 sweep of Barton College on Thursday afternoon, March 16, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

FINAL RESULTS

The Phoenix (13-6) swept doubles play and secured the point with an excellent performance from reigning CAA doubles team of the week Olivia Lucas and Erica Braschi on court two, winning 6-1. Elon stayed hot to start singles play, sweeping four of out of the six matches 6-0, 6-0. Barton College falls to 5-7 overall with the loss.

HIGHLIGHTS
Kirsten Ward and Suzanne Zenoni started things off on court three, finishing first and cruising to a 6-0 win, followed by Lucas and Braschi on court two to secure the point. The reining CAA doubles team of the week has now won four straight matches and are 11-4 overall this season. Alex Koniaev and Maria Paraja finished things off on court one with a 6-2 win to finalize the doubles sweep.

In singles, Paraja came out firing on her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win on court five, her team-high 12th dual-match singles win of the season. Ward then followed on court four with a strong showing of her own, earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory to bring the score to 3-0.

Sofia Edo secured the pivotal forth point on court six with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep also to secure the win for Elon. She improves to 9-2 in singles this season.

Ward followed with the third 6-0, 6-0 victory of the day on court three to extend Elon’s lead to five.

Braschi and Lucas closed things out for the Phoenix on courts one and two, winning 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively, to finish off the 7-0 sweep of Barton. For Braschi and Lucas, they each earned their 10th singles victory of the spring season.
