College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Shoots 308 in First Round at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot 308 in Friday’s opening round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.

A two-hour frost delay kept 11 teams and five individuals from completing their opening rounds on the par-72, 6,700-yard Pine Lakes Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club. The field features 29 teams, plus the five individuals.

Top-ranked Huntingdon College and number-13 Methodist University shot four-over-par 292 and share the top spot among clubhouse leaders. Washington and Lee University was at one-under par, but had three team members on the course when Friday’s play was halted due to darkness.

Guilford, ranked 16th in the latest Golfstat.com Division III Head-to-Head Ratings, got a three-over 75 from sophomore Josh Hill and a four-over 76 by rookie Zach Evens. Evens played the back nine at one under with eight pars and a birdie. Hill had a team-high three birdies among his 18 holes. Senior Ty Palmer carded a 79, followed by Kell Graham’s 79. Harrison Frye shot 80 for Guilford.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers will await the remaining teams’ completion of round one before starting their second round Saturday in Georgia. The tournament concludes Sunday.
