Elon Track & Field Phoenix Opens Outdoor Season at Bob Davidson Spring Kickoff

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Junior Bryanna Hames extended her school record in the outdoor shot put as the Elon University women’s track and field team opened its 2017 outdoor campaign at the Bob Davidson Spring Kickoff on Friday, March 17, at Vert Stadium.

RESULTS

Hames had a toss of 14.49m in the shot put and finished as the runner-up overall in the event. The Charlotte, N.C., native broke her previous school mark by .30m. Corey Weiss was also the runner-up in her event, the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she clocked a time of 11:07.15, a new personal-best.

Sophomore Lauren Brzozowski set a new personal-best in the 100-meter dash with her time of 12.31 in the preliminary round. Jayna Coyle emerged as Elon’s top finisher in the long jump at a mark of 5.26m.

Rookie Melody Burke was sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.55m while another rookie, Skylar Bathelmes had a toss of 35.74m in the javelin.

Elon closes out the meet tomorrow, March 18, on the final day with events beginning at 9:30 a.m.
