College Men’s Tennis Final – Guilford 8, Roanoke 1

SALEM, Va. – Guilford College’s men’s tennis team scored an 8-1 road win at Roanoke College Sunday, the Quakers’ second Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) triumph in as many days.

The Quakers (5-3, 3-1 ODAC) cruised to three doubles wins and captured five of six singles contests, each in straight sets. Freshman Tate Godwin teamed with junior Mesa Martorell for an 8-3 first-doubles win over Jose Alvarado and Holden Branham. The second-doubles tandem of Graham Pearson and Chasen Chacon dispatched of Chris Teeple and Billy Goins, 8-3. The Quakers’ Levi Bruff and Aaron Smedley downed Matt Friedlander and Jack Doriss, 8-2.

Smedley picked up his second win of the day at third singles with a 6-2, 6-0, win over Goins. Bruff also won twice, thanks to his 6-1, 6-1, fifth-singles win over Neel Saah.

The Maroons (1-5, 0-1 ODAC) scored their lone point at second singles when Alvarado edged Martorell, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4).

Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers visit league-foe Hampden-Sydney College Saturday (3/25) at 2:00 p.m.
