HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Elon University men’s golf team carded the fourth-lowest final round by any team and finished in fourth place at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular on Sunday, March 19, at the Mission Inn Resort & Club.
Elon (295-308-297–900) missed its fifth consecutive top-three finish by one stroke as host George Mason carded an 899 (+35) for the event. TCU (301-283-291–875) claimed the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular title beating out second-place Marquette by 11 strokes.
The Highlights
Jared Mactas earned Elon’s highest individual finish. He tied a final round team-low carding a 73 (+1) over the final 18 holes to tie for 13th individually. Mactas made four birdies in his final round to jump up nine spots on the player leaderboard.
Philip Loeb duplicated Mactas’ final-round total with a 73 (+1) of his own, moving into a tie for 18th individually. The sophomore made two birdies on the front nine to help him move up 10 spots.
Jake Leavitt additionally earned a spot in the top-25, finishing in a tie for 21st individually, and just one stoke behind Loeb.
Additionally, Charlie May finished in a tie for 34th and William Harwood carded the second-lowest final round for an Elon individual with a two over-par 74. Harwood surged 21 spots on the player leaderboard to finish in a tie for 57th.
Notes
– The Phoenix had its streak of top-three finishes snapped at four-straight tournaments. Elon has finished in the top-five in five of its eight tournaments this season.
– Jared Mactas has now earned at least a top-25 finish in three straight events and four times this season. He also earned his third top-15 individual finish of the year.
