Elon Track and Field Closes Out Outdoor Opener at Bob Davidson Spring Kickoff

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team closed out its 2017 outdoor opener on Saturday, March 18, on the final day of the Bob Davidson Spring Kickoff on the campus of High Point at Vert Stadium.

RESULTS

Bryanna Hames concluded her great weekend with a win in the discus throw. The Charlotte, N.C., native had a heave of 48.15m in the event to take medalist honors. Teammate Bre’anna Warren was third overall with her mark of 47.16m, a new personal-best.

Carrie Abraham was second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.77m. Fellow senior Jayna Coyle was also in the top-six of the triple jump with her mark of 11.51m. Lydia Laws garnered a third-place standing in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:01.52.

Chelsea Smith finished third overall in the 800-meters with a time of 2:16.11 for the Phoenix. Elon’s 4×100-meter relay team clocked a time of 48.48 in its race and Lauren Brzozowski was the Phoenix’s top finisher in the 200-meters with a time of 25.03.

In the pole vault, Ellie Bennett was the runner-up with a cleared height of 3.35m. Teammate Nicole Karabas also cleared the bar at 3.35m, but finished fourth as she needed more attempts to do so.

Sophia Tasselmyer was fourth in the 3,000-meters with a time of 10:33.37 with teammate Sami King also in the top-10 with a time of 10:44.99. Briana O’Grady was 14th overall in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.85m.

Elon is back in competition after its spring break with a visit to the prestigious Raleigh Relays on March 24-25.
