College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Wins Triangular Event With Hope and Luther

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Guilford junior Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) shot an even-par 73 to help the Quakers score wins over Hope College and Luther College Wednesday. The victory marked Frye’s first college medalist honor.

The teams met at the par-73, 7,021-yard Country Club of Winter Haven for a triangular match. Each squad played five students and the low four scores counted towards the final team standings.

Frye started his round with an eagle on the par-five first hole and a birdie on the par-three second hole. He birdied two more holes and made the turn at two-under par before settling with a 73. He edged teammate Kendall Dunn and Luther’s Joe Fewer by one stroke. As Frye got off to a great start, Dunn was five-over after 12 holes, but played the final third of the course at four under, capped by an eagle three on the par-five 18th hole.

Hope’s Winton Munch and Andrew Goble led a trio of golfers in fourth place with two-over 75. They were joined by Luther’s Ben Grotnes.

The Quakers put all five of their contestants in the top 10, including Josh Hill, who was seventh at 76, one stroke and one spot in front of teammate Kell Graham. Zach Evens’ 79 did not count towards the team score, but placed 10th in the 15-man field.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers are ranked 17th in the latest Golfstat.com D3 Relative Rankings, two spots behind Hope. Guilford is 15th in the March 10 Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches’ Division III Poll, two places behind Hope.

Guilford hosts the Division III Match Play Invitational April 2-3 on the East Course of Grandover Resort in Greensboro.
