No. 14 Elon WLAX Downs Coastal Carolina 15-6 at Rudd Field

ELON, N.C. – The 14th-ranked Elon University women’s lacrosse team earned a 15-6 victory over Coastal Carolina on Friday night, March 24, at Rudd Field to move to 7-2 on the 2017 campaign.

Stephanie Asher led Elon’s attack with four goals on seven shots, while Nicole Sinacori added three goals and two assists. In addition, Abby Godfrey and Kelsey Dupere scored two goals and grabbed three ground balls each. Sloane Kessler, Shannon Horan, Shelby Scanlin and Maeve Cowley each added a goal for the Phoenix.

In the cage, Rachel Ramirez made 10 saves and picked up four ground balls to go with two caused turnovers as she earn her seventh win of the season. Tori Cipollone played in the cage for the final six minutes and recorded one save.

Sophie Crowther led the Chanticleers (3-4) with two goals on six shots and added one assist to lead Coastal Carolina. Haley Alexander added another goal and won a team-high five draw controls on the night.

The Rundown
After the Chanticleers score the first goal of the contest, the Phoenix scored nine unanswered to take a 9-1 lead led by Sinacori’s three goals and assist. Coastal Carolina grabbed two more goals in the final three minutes and Elon added one more through Shannon Horan as the Phoenix held a 10-3 lead at the break.

The Phoenix opened the second half with three goals, including two from Asher in the first nine minutes to take a 13-3 lead. Dupere added a goal during the three-goal stretch.

Coastal Carolina scored twice and Elon added another in the next four minutes, as the Chanticleers scored twice through Crowther and Scanlin scored her first goal of the season for the Phoenix. After a 10 minutes goalless stretch, Hannah Krin scored with just over six to play to make it a 14-6 Elon lead. Asher sealed the win with her 30th of the season at the 4:13 mark to give the maroon and gold a 15-6 victory.
