Throwers Highlight Elon Track and Field’s Opener at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team opened competition at the prestigious Raleigh Relays on Friday, March 24, at the Paul Derr Track at the campus of NC State.

RESULTS

Bryanna Hames was the runner-up in the discus throw after the Charlotte, N.C. native had a toss of 170’ 3” (51.91m) in the event. Bre’anna Warren was 12th with a toss of 148’ 0” (45.13m) while freshman Skylar Barthelmes had a mark of 134’ 10” (41.10m).

Hames nearly tied her career-best and school-record mark in the shot put with her throw of 47’ 5.25” (14.46m). She was ninth in the event while Warren was 15th with a heave of 46’ 1.25” (14.05m).

Senior Kimberly Johansen earned a top-five finish in the 1,500-meter run after clocking a time of 4:23.05 in the race. The Chelmsford, England, native was just shy of her personal and school-record mark of 4:22.82 in the race. Freshman Melissa Anastasakis ran a time of 4:40.96 while teammate Brigid Brennan crossed the line with her time of 4:48.25.

Desiree Ross was the Phoenix’s top finisher in the 400-meter dash with her time of 56.62 and was 12th overall. Katie Arbogast ran a time of 57.33 while Lauren Brzozowski crossed the line at 58.40.

Carrie Abraham was 13th in the long jump with her leap of 17’ 10.25” (5.44m) while fellow senior had a mark of 17’ 6.25” (5.34m). Coralea Geraniotis ran a time of 17:33.36 in the 5,000-meters

Elon closes out the second and final day at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday, March 25, with events starting at 8 a.m.
