LYNCHBURG, Va. – Guilford College’s Jeremiah Hedrick and Becca Benfield led the Quakers with a top-ten finish a piece in Saturday’s Dr. Jack Toms Invitational at Lynchburg College. The field featured NCAA Division II and III competitors, including members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).

Hedrick led the men with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump, posting a mark of 12.77 meters. The mark was the fifth best among ODAC athletes. The finish also stands sixth all-time in school history as the last mark in Guilford’s best performances before hitting 13 meters. Hedrick also placed 13th in the long jump with a mark of 6.25 meters. The mark was seventh among ODAC competitors.

Nate Phillips finished just ahead of Hedrick in the long jump, placing 11th with a mark of 6.39 meters. Benfield led the women with a ninth-place finish in the shot put, posting a mark of 10.61 meters. The mark broke her own school record by .26 meters and the throw stood sixth among ODAC participants.

Sommer Fanney (Burlington, N.C./Williams) took home a 13th-place finish in the 1,500 meter run, posting a time of 5:07.01. The finish was good for seventh place among her ODAC rivals and sets a new second-best finish in school history, improving upon her previous best finish.
