Elon’s Asher Collects CAA WLAX Honor After Standout Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University women’s lacrosse attacker Stephanie Asher was rewarded for her stellar week Monday, March 27, by earning CAA Player of the Week recognition for the third time this season.

Asher scored 10 goals on 14 shots across Elon’s two victories last week against Coastal Carolina and Davidson. The junior notched a team-high four goals against the Chanticleers in the 15-6 win on Friday, March 24, before netting a season-high six against the Wildcats on Sunday, March 26, in a 15-7 win at Rudd Field. Asher also added two draw controls in both games.

Sunday’s performance was one for the record books. With six goals, she tied her career high for the third time and now represents three of the five occasions an Elon player has scored six goals in a game in program history. Paired with two assists on the afternoon, Asher’s eight-point game ties her Feb. 14, 2016, performance against Longwood for the second-most in a game in team history. She already holds the record for most points in a game with nine against Stetson back on Feb. 22, 2015.

Now with 36 goals on the season, Asher is ninth in the nation in goals scored and is eight goals away from tying her program record of 44 for most in a single season. Her total thus far through 10 games leads the CAA with the junior averaging 3.6 goals per outing on the year.

Asher and the Phoenix will be back in action on Wednesday, March 29, at 6 p.m. when the team closes its 2017 nonconference slate with a matchup against Duke at Rudd Field. The Phoenix is looking to repeat its win last season over the Blue Devils when it defeated No. 10 Duke, 7-6, in Durham for the program’s first victories over an ACC team and a nationally ranked foe.
