Elon’s Mactas Earns Second CAA Men’s Golfer of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University men’s golf senior Jared Mactas earned his second Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Golfer of the Week honor of the season today, March 29, as announced by the league office.

Mactas earned a tie for second place, matching the highest finish of his career, to help the Phoenix win the Towson Invitational. It was Mactas’ first top-three finish of the year and his third top-10 finish this season.

The Woodcliff Lake, N.J. native shot a career-low 67 in the first round and had a one-stroke lead heading into the final round at Prospect Bay Country Club. He highlighted his first round with an eagle on the par-four eighth hole. He also added six more birdies during the tournament to help him finish second.

The weekly honor is the third of Mactas’ career and the second for him this season. He was also named the CAA Golfer of the Week earlier this season on March 1.

Mactas shares this week’s honor with Towson’s Spencer Alexander, who tied with the Phoenix senior at the Towson Invitational for second place at one-under par.

The Towson Invitational championship was the program’s first tournament title since winning the Sea Trails Intercollegiate in September of 2010. Elon as a team has now earned a top-three finish in five of its last six tournaments.

After a week off, the Phoenix will return to the links, April 7-9, to compete in the Clemson Invitational.
