Elon Baseball’s Brnovich Repeats as League Rookie of the Week, Earns National Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – After recording the most strikeouts by an Elon pitcher in over a decade, right-handed pitcher Kyle Brnovich was named the co-CAA Rookie of the Week on April 10. Brnovich, who was the league’s co-pitcher and rookie of the week last week, also was named as one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week.

Brnovich, a native of Milton, Ga., struck out 15 hitters, the most by a Phoenix pitcher since Steven Hensley fanned 16 against Davidson on March 30, 2007, in a win over William & Mary. He threw 8.1 innings and scattered six hits against the Tribe on Sunday. At one point, Brnovich struck out six consecutive hitters. The freshman walked two and allowed three runs. Brnovich, who had a streak of 20.2 scoreless innings snapped, is 3-0 with a 1.20 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 30.0 innings over his last four starts.

Brnovich (3-2) leads the CAA in opponent’s batting average (.176) and ranks second in ERA (2.62) and strikeouts (59) on the year.

The Phoenix will be back in action for a pair of midweek games this week. Elon will play host to High Point at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, before welcoming Wake Forest to Latham Park for a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday, April 12.
