HIGH POINT, N.C.—The High Point University men’s lacrosse team battled back in the second half, but fell to Furman, 13-8, in Southern Conference action Saturday afternoon (April 15) at Vert Stadium.

The Paladins (6-6, 5-0 SoCon) scored the first five goals and built an 8-3 lead in the third quarter, before the Panthers (3-9, 1-4) pulled off four goals in a row, including two man-up goals by senior Michael LeClair, to cut the lead to one at 8-7. Furman then scored five of the last six to pick up the win.

“Hats off to Furman, who played hard today and executed at a high level,” HPU head coach Jon Torpey said. “We had a few opportunities to get back into the game in the third quarter and while I enjoyed seeing our guys battle back, we have got to figure out a way to eliminate our mistakes. I look forward to getting back out on the field Monday.”

Furman held a slim advantage in shots, 33-29, and at the faceoff ‘X’, 13-10. The Paladins also led in ground balls, 28-20.

Senior Nick Basile led the Panthers with four points on three goals and an assist. Fellow senior Sean Harrison tallied three points with a goal and two assists, while classmate Michael LeClair posted the two man-up goals.

Sophomore Tim Troutner Jr. made 10 saves in the cage, the eighth-consecutive game he has tallied 10 or more saves. He also picked up seven ground balls and caused four turnovers.

The Panthers return to action April 22 at Jacksonville at noon.
