RICHMOND, Va. – The Elon University women’s tennis duo of Kirsten Ward and Suzanne Zenoni were named the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday, April 18.
Ward and Zenoni were tabbed as the CAA Doubles Team of the Week after going 2-0 at No. 3 doubles in Elon’s 2-0 week.
They clinched the doubles point in a 7-0 victory over Appalachian State by beating Melissa Machado and Taylor Bygrave, 6-3. In a 5-2 team triumph against James Madison, Ward and Zenoni topped the Dukes’ Dylan Owens and Jona Roka, 6-1, claiming the first win in a Phoenix doubles sweep. The tandem helped the Phoenix as a team improve to 13-1 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center this season.
This season, Ward and Zenoni own an 11-7 record and have won two straight doubles matches. The duo has also won six of their last 10 doubles matches. They are the second Phoenix doubles team to be selected for CAA weekly honors. Erica Braschi and Olivia Lucas earned the same accolade on March 14.
Elon return to the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center to host the 2017 CAA Championship from Thursday, April 20, to Sunday, April 23. The Phoenix earned the No. 2 seed and will face No. 7 Towson on Friday, April 21, at 1 p.m.
