MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – After third round action was suspended on Saturday, the Elon University men’s golf team completed the final round at the 2017 CAA Men’s Golf Championships on Sunday morning, April 23, at Salisbury Country Club.
Jared Mactas was the highlight for the Phoenix as he ended his career with a top-10 finish in the conference tournament. Elon completed the tournament with a seventh-place finish. College of Charleston set a new conference record three-round score to claim its fourth straight CAA Championship.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
Mactas moved three spots up the leaderboard to earn his fourth top-10 finish of the season. He was just four strokes away from finishing in the top-five.
Jake Leavitt was Elon’s second top-20 finisher earning a tie for 15th individually after making five birdies in the final round.
In addition, William Harwood finished in a tie for 29th after turning in his third round scorecard. The freshman made two birdies during the round. Philip Loeb finished in a tie for 36th and Charlie May rounded out Elon’s lineup finishing 43rd overall.
NOTES
– The Phoenix concluded the season with six top-five team finishes and five top-three finishes, which included a tournament title at the Towson Spring Invitational. Elon claimed four of its six top-five finishes during the spring season.
– Two players (Jake Leavitt and William Harwood) won individual titles and three players (Jared Mactas-2x, Jake Leavitt and William Harwood) earned CAA Golfer of the Week honors during the season.
