HPU baseball falls on the road to UNC Wilmington, 7-3

• High Point dropped a 7-3 decision on the road at UNC Wilmington on Wednesday night.
• Senior Josh Greene was the only HPU player with multiple hits, going 2-3 with a run scored on the night.
• The Panthers are off this weekend for finals and will return to action on Friday, May 5, with the first game of a weekend series against Charleston Southern.

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team fell on the road by a score of 7-3 at UNC Wilmington on Wednesday night in Wilmington, N.C. Senior Josh Greene went 2-3 with a run scored for the Panthers in the loss.

Junior Jordan Sergent took the loss on the mound and dropped to 1-1 on the season. The left-hander pitched three innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out one.

Josh Roberson got the win for UNC Wilmington and improved to 1-1 on the year. Roberson pitched three perfect innings with two strikeouts to get the win.

High Point drops to 22-18 overall with the loss while UNC Wilmington improves to 19-21.

UNC Wilmington scored four times in the second to take an early 4-0 lead. Ryan Jeffers led off the Seahawk half of the inning with a home run and Daniel Stack drove in two with an RBI double.

The Panthers scored three times in the fourth to pull back within one at 4-3. Junior Blake Schunk drove in junior Austen Zente with an RBI groundout for the first run of the inning then juniors Carson Jackson and Hunter Lee followed with back-to-back RBI singles to get HPU back within a run.

The Seahawks scored twice in the fifth and again in the seventh to push the lead back to four at 7-3.

High Point is off until next weekend when the team will host Charleston Southern in a three-game Big South series starting on Friday, May 5. It will be the final home conference series of the season for the Panthers.
