FOREST, Va. – Guilford College placed two students on the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) annual men’s lacrosse all-league teams announced Thursday. Junior Will Forrestal (Holly Springs, N.C./Holly Springs) garnered second-team honors and teammate Parker Styles (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter) picked up third-team recognition. The award winners were selected and nominated by the league’s men’s lacrosse coaches.
The coaches also selected the league’s annual Ray Rostan Men’s Lacrosse Sportsmanship Team. Senior midfielder David Felipe (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian) represented Guilford on the team.
Forrestal, a junior defender, appeared in all 16 games with 14 starts. He led the Quakers and ranked third in the ODAC with 35 caused turnovers, which ranks 38th in NCAA Division III through games of May 10. A team captain, Forrestal also contributed 40 ground balls, tops among defenders and second on the team. He added two goals and two assists with his long pole and turned the ball over just nine times. Forrestal caused a career-best seven turnovers and picked up two ground balls in the Quakers’ 15-8 win over Greensboro College. He collected a season-best six ground balls in Guilford’s league win over Virginia Wesleyan College.
Styles joins Thomas Deane ’15 as Guilford’s lone All-ODAC goaltenders. The Quakers’ junior ranks 25th nationally with a league-best .580 saves percentage and is 37th in Division III with 12.88 saves per game, the ODAC’s second-best figure. Styles finished with 206 stops in 16 starts and posted a 9.54 goals against average, which stands third in the league. He had 10 games with 10 or more saves, including three with 20 or more stops. Styles made a personal-best 26 saves in Guilford’s 16-9 setback to nationally ranked Roanoke College. His sterling .778 saves percentage helped the Quakers to a 10-4 win over Virginia Wesleyan. Styles also led Guilford with 61 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers.
A team captain, Felipe played in 15 games with 13 starts this spring. The long-stick midfielder stood third on the team with 34 ground balls and also contributed one goal, one assist and seven caused turnovers. Felipe picked up a personal-best seven ground balls in the win over Greensboro and had five pickups in a 6-4 setback at league-rival Randolph-Macon College. Felipe is an accomplished student who has made six dean’s list appearances as an exercise and sport sciences and health sciences double major. A 2015-16 Academic All-ODAC honoree, he also served on Guilford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Coach Tom Carmean’s Quakers recorded an 8-8 overall record (3-6 ODAC). Carmean could return as many as eight starters among 28 letter winners next year, including Forrestal and Styles.
