Tina Gunn named new Girls Basketball Coach at Southern Guilford High School

Official word coming in from Southern Guilford High School Athletic Director Jeff Carter:

Coach Bettina/Tina Gunn has been named the new women’s basketball coach at Southern Guilford High School for the upcoming season.

Coach Gunn was the former head girls basketball coach at Grimsley High School and the head girls coach at Eastern Guilford High School….

Coach Gunn won 17 games in her five years with the Grimsley Whirlies…Grimsley won 3 conference games over that time span….At Eastern Guilford, for five years, her Eastern Guilford Wildcat teams won 103 games and lost just 39…Coach Gunn had records at (26-5), (23-5) and (22-6) ranking as her best years while at Eastern…

Coach Gunn’s top player in her time at Grimsley was Rebecca Little, a tall point guard that could do it all and many times she had to….

At Eastern Guilford, Coach Gunn’s top players were cousins Miranda Jenkins and Tasha Huntley….Jenkins averaged nearly 26 points per game during her senior year at Eastern and later played college basketball at Stony Brook….Now Jenkins is the video coordinator for the Women’s Basketball Program at Michigan State….Huntley played women’s college basketball for Norfolk State University…..

Coach Gunn replaces William Whitaker at Southern Guilford and Coach Whitaker, whose contract was not renewed, was let go at Southern, just about 6-8 weeks ago….

Southern Guilford girls basketball was (15-11) overall and (9-3) in the conference in 2016-17…
