Elon’s Brnovich Claims Another CAA Baseball Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – For the third time this season, Elon University right-handed pitcher Kyle Brnovich has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Rookie of the Week. He also earned the honor on April 3 and April 10.

Brnovich improved to 6-4 on the year after surrendering three runs on six hits over 8.0 innings in Elon’s 5-3 victory over first-place UNCW on Sunday. The Milton, Ga., native fanned 10, which marked his second double-digit strikeout game of the season. Brnovich tied Elon’s NCAA Division I freshman record for wins in a season with the victory. He has now struck out 94 hitters in 81.2 innings this season, the 10th-highest strikeout total in a year in program history and just two Ks shy of matching the program’s NCAA Division I freshman record.

Brnovich leads the CAA in ERA (3.09), opponent’s batting average (.186), strikeouts and strikeouts looking (38). He is second in wins and innings pitched. Nationally, Brnovich rates 25th in hits allowed per nine innings (6.06), 30th in strikeouts and 73rd in strikeouts per nine innings (10.36).

The Phoenix will wrap up its regular season with three games against Bowling Green this week. The series begins with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Thurdsay, May 18, before concluding with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, May 19.
